GreenMango has its headquarters in Hyderabad, India an office in Bangalore and is expanding operations to other major Indian metropolises in 2009. M. Yasmina McCarty and Nandini Narula founded GreenMango. The founding team has deep and extensive experience in working with low-income entrepreneurs in emerging economies after spending several years working in the global microfinance sector. Prior to their time in the microfinance sector, Yasmina and Nandini both worked in the corporate sector developing technology platforms and designing marketing strategies for companies ranging from technology start-ups in Silicon Valley to Fortune 500 firms. Yasmina holds an undergraduate degree from Northwestern University and an MBA from Columbia Business School and London Business School. Nandini holds an undergraduate degree in Computer Science from the University of Michigan and an MSc in Economic Development from the London School of Economics and Political Science. GreenMango has two distinct customers. The first is the small business owner who has a service to sell or deliver but no way to advertise or reach the customer and is not fairly compensated for his/her skills due to lack of market visibility. The second customer is the middle to high income shopper who requires home services like carpenters, maids, tailors and drivers and goes to the GreenMango website or call center to find the small business in their neighborhood that can provide the needed service. GreenMango is the bridge between low-income entrepreneurs and their primary customers, the middle class shopper. There are several unique aspects to GreenMango: 1) It offers information on small, informal businesses rather than the larger, registered businesses offered by most other local search sites. This data is collected via an on the ground sales force that go into the neighborhoods and meet directly with small business owners. 2) The GreenMango website provides rich information about each business. In addition to basic contact information, each business profile includes information about services offered, specialty areas, years of experience, business hours, and pictures of past work. 3) Shoppers can search by neighborhood, by business category, or by a specific service to find exactly the right business. |
